A Photographer in the Nappy Valley – Wednesday

This is the forth in our series sharing a lighthearted look at the highs and lows of a baby portrait photographer in the South West London Nappy Valley.
This is one of those days of the week that always seems to be my busiest. Usually I try to plan shoots for the morning and viewing for the afternoon. It’s always a pretty good day for getting enquiries for some reason.
7:30am Could be quite a busy one today so I’m up fairly early again.
Realise I don’t have any images scheduled on Tumblr for my 365 project so do a quick edit and upload. I took the images back in 2007 in Raratonga. Had a little play around with the little Photoshop action set. Unfortunately I have since had to abandon the project as I’ve just run out of time for it. I’ll probability revisit the project in a couple of months or so as it was quite fun going through my old images.
9am check where I need to go today and head out. Trains are running late so I find myself traversing across South London going from train to bus to tube. Somehow make it to our first shoot of the day on time.
10:30am Shooting with Marcin again today and we’re going for the combination of him shooting with a 50mm and me with a 70-200mm.
This morning’s model is a 3 month old in a badly lit basement apartment in Clapham North. Not our usual area but a booking is a booking and I can’t complain!
Struggling to get this little one smiling but we get there in the end. Discovered that if I wiggle the baby’s legs about it sort of calms it down…. I even get a few smiles…. Perhaps this is going to be my new thing…. I nickname it ‘the running baby’.
12pm Back to our Morden office (aka Marcin’s house) for a cup of coffee and a break. Work out the logistics of the next few day’s shoots and viewings.
Realise that we have quite a bit of editing to do!
2pm Arrive at our second shoot of the day….. another 3 month old but this one has quite an impressive head of hair.
An hour and a few more frowns later we’re done. Tried the wiggly leg, running baby thing again and it worked….. to an extent….. It’s almost like I know what I doing!
4pm back home and on the phone chasing up enquiries. Make two bookings for next week…. both two month old babies…… and both with the same birthday…. strange.
Download and backup cards and pick out images for the blog and FB.
Feeling a bit knackered so a make myself a coffee and play COD for an hour. There’s nothing quite like getting shot at and taunted by a bunch of 14 year olds to relieve a little stress!
7pm Off to meet with a potential wedding couple in West Wimbledon.
Meeting goes very well… hopefully we’ll book that one and that would be September sorted for weddings…. my new years resolution is not to get spend any money advertising our wedding services and rely purely on random Google searches and word of mouth.
Put it this way…. if we shoot 1 wedding a month that’s more than enough for me.
So far I’m quite happy with the bookings we have for the year and as it turns out shooting babies is a good way to meet engaged couples!
9pm Finish editing images for tomorrows viewing and fire off a few emails.
11pm Pop into the SWPP forum as I haven’t been in there for a while. Read a few posts but make no comments.
12am Proper knackered now so it’s off to bed.
