A Photographer in the Nappy Valley – Sunday

This is the first in our series sharing a lighthearted look at the highs and lows of a baby portrait photographer in the South West London Nappy Valley.
In most walks of life Sunday is the day of rest but alas I have no such luxury…. this is where my week begins!
We do and leave Sundays aside as a sort of ‘overflow day’ but as it’s one of the few days of the week that we can get whole families together for a shoot or viewing……. there’s always something to do!
Sunday
8am wake up and get ready for today’s shoot which was a bit of a booking out of the blue.
Earlier in the week I had planned for a day off today and had hoped to do this shoot on Monday morning. Alas swimming practice has filled my client’s diary so today will have to do.
9am Leave the house not really feeling up for it today but the sun is shining which always cheers me up. The photo-shoot is about 45 mins away on the train so there’s time to check Twitter for @mentions and to see if there’s anything interesting happening. I also try to use this time to work on articles for PhotoCreative365 and Current Photographer.
10am Arrive at shoot. Lovely couple, smiley 4 month old baby. Result!
Really good shoot and I even get the light meter out and do some fancy set up with the wooden blinds.
Shooting with Marcin today who does a much better Donald duck impression than me. Decide to shoot mostly with a 70-200mm over Marcin’s shoulder as he’s established quite the rapport with our little model.

12pm on the Northern Line and heading home. Have a quick tweet and work on an article for PhotoCreative365
1pm Get home and get stuck into some paper work. Emma (my lovely wife and accountant) seems pleased that I’m on top of my invoices.
Partnership return for 2010 done!
Spend the rest of the afternoon preparing orders for the lab and delivery.
Loads of emails to get through though mostly forums, Facebook, twitter notifications and LinkedIn group discussions.
6pm Pretty much done for the day which is a nice feeling. Make a conscious decision to shut down the computer and pop my feet up! The iPhone will inevitably buzz away with notifications but I leave those for tomorrow morning.
