Agricultural show – Ruth Bayley

I love a good agricultural show; there are so many stories going in within such a small area and so many characters. With this kind of subject, I’m working a little out of my comfort zone in that generally, my landscape subjects such as flowers and trees are only moved by wind, or maybe an odd bird flying through.

Here I was challenged by the time in which I had to take the photos and in not always being able to get in the best position; for one I didn’t want to get soaked by a stray bucket of water and for another I didn’t want to be kicked, by a cow!

The sky really lent itself to the day, no plain blue skies; it was a day of rain showers and beautifully stormy clouds which made for some great moody backgrounds to shoot against. So in these pictures I aim to tell the story of a show, from the early morning wash and blow dry of the cows to the patient shire horses as they stand having their manes and tails plaited. And never to be missed, the WI tent and their delicious cakes and jams, and er, as regards to the cakes; yes I do definitely speak from experience!
