Every demon shows their horns at 2AM by Kam Khan |
Kam Khan
Based in New York City, Kam was recently selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Hasselblad 2010 Masters competition, was nominated for an Audelco Award for his performance in “The Domestic Crusaders” and was selected as a finalist in PDN Magazine’s PIX Digital Imaging Contest in the “New Talent of 2010″ category for his self portrait series, “Life Begins at 2AM”. The series was born from one sleepless night when Kamran combined his skills as an actor, photographer, martial artist, and writer to tell a visual story with a single image.
In the rare moments when Kam is not shooting, he can be seen in Wajahat Ali’s critically acclaimed play, The Domestic Crusaders. He is also hard at work on an original screenplay, “Ground Zed”, which placed as a quarter finalist in Francis Ford Coppola’s 2010 American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest out of over 2,400 entries. He is also hard at work fighting the Nigerian Scammers of the world with his alter-ego Gunther Schvwardson. Growing up around the fantastic coastline of Dorset, my photographic interest began with a passion for the unique natural surroundings.
I enjoy trying to bring a creative edge to my landscape photography and enjoy the post processing element, along with learning new techniques.
Over the last few years I have had many images published in photography magazines, local books and newspapers. I have also won several awards for my monochrome photography.
During 2010 I had one of my images commended by the judges of the Take a view – Landscape Photographer Of The Year 2010 and won a place in the Awards book. In addition, it was displayed in the National Theatre exhibition. I also picked up 4 awards at the International Photography Awards.
My passion for black & white photography began with the classic images from great photographers such as Ansel Adams. It wasn’t until I discovered the more recent works of artists such as Michael Levin and Michael Kenna that my interest really developed into more of an obsession. I have always had a very keen eye for lines and symmetry, so this style really appeals to me. I also love the simplicity of monochrome and the beauty that can be conveyed through contrast and light.
I also have a passion for landscape photography and benefit from some fantastic local locations living here in Dorset.
