The Memory Gate Portfolio 2010-2011

December 25, 2011 – 10:00 am |

This is our last ever Sunday Showcase and how nice it is that it just happens to fall on Christmas day! For this Sunday Showcase I have put together some of Memory Gate’s favourite hair and fashion images from the last couple of years.
Although I am primarily a baby and wedding photographer I do enjoy the odd [...]

Favourite rants, ideas and thoughts on the business of photography

December 30, 2011 – 10:00 am |

Tomorrow I’ll be publishing a list of the most popular post from the past 2 years here at PhotoCreative365 but with over 1000 articles that still leaves out quite a few of my favourite rants, ideas and thoughts on the business of photography. There’s lots to read so get stuck in!

Client Capacity

December 29, 2011 – 10:00 am |

In various articles I’ve referenced the ‘client capacity’ concept but I’m not sure if I’ve ever really sat down a written a dedicated article about it and why knowing what your client capacity is can be very important.
Client capacity is exactly what the name suggests it is.
It’s the most amount of clients your business can [...]

Just so we’re clear – I’m not afraid to undercut you

December 27, 2011 – 10:00 am | One Comment

I keep coming across articles and blog posts from photographers where they warn of dangers and pitfalls of hiring an amateur photographer.
Indeed I’m sure I’ve written articles or dispensed similar advice myself at some point.
And it’s true, if you want a professional job done then hire a professional. That’s just good advice.

Monday morning ramble – The last ramble?

December 26, 2011 – 11:01 am |

Well technically this is my last Monday morning ramble here at PhotoCreative365 and in fact my last Monday post on this site.
For the past couple of years I have managed my workflow by putting aside Mondays as a blogging day. I usually start the morning off my looking through the last weeks posts and recording [...]

December 25, 2011 – 12:00 pm |

Well this is our 999th post here at PhotoCreative365 since we first posted on December 31st 2009. Earlier today we posted our last Sunday showcase which was a collection of images from the Memory Gate archive over the past couple of years.
There is now only 1 week to go before we post our last daily article here at PhotoCreative365. I have [...]

Photo booths at weddings

December 22, 2011 – 10:00 am |

A few months previous the couple asked us if we could do something like a photo booth set-up. I’ve shot plenty of events with backgrounds before but never at a wedding. Still my answer was very much along the lines of….why not, we’ll give it a go.

The Digital File Anticlimax

December 21, 2011 – 4:57 pm |

I run a high volume baby portrait business and for the most part many of our clients aren’t the worlds most affluent. This means we made a decision to sell products that are affordable but have a high profit margin. I mean of course: prints and digital files.

The Monday Morning Ramble – Saturday Scramble

December 19, 2011 – 10:00 am | One Comment

Well that was the last big shopping weekend before Christmas and also my last two sessions before the festive season really kicks in.
I knew Saturday was going to be hectic but it turned out to be busier than I thought it would be.

Interview a client

December 15, 2011 – 10:00 am |

Guess what? Your favourite clients are your target market.
They might be your favourites because they are quite simply nice people but I’m guessing its because they either spent a lot of money or were excited about the type if photography that excites you.
If that is your target market then why wouldn’t you want to know [...]

The Monday Morning Ramble – DoubleTake

December 12, 2011 – 10:00 am | One Comment

It’s been a month now since DoubleTake studios suffered the same fate as Olan Mills did in 2008 and went into administration. There’s been very little chatter about what exactly went wrong but a few Google searches will undoubtedly give a few hints.
How not to run a photography business 101
