Customise your Facebook Fan Page

We’ve already talked a little about Sharing your images on Facebook and you can download our free Facebook fan page template but what other ways are there to dress up your Facebook fan page?

Profile Picture

One of Facebook’s biggest limitations in terms of customisation is that you can’t change backgrounds or the colour scheme. To stamp your brand onto your page you might want to go ahead and have a nice big profile picture.

The largest size that Facebook allows is 200×600 pixels. Just make sure that you can crop that to something recognisable when it’s make into a square.

Static FBML

We have mentioned this before but only in regards to creating a splash or welcome page (Facebook fan page template). Facebook Markup Language isn’t so different from HTML…. in fact just dropping HTML into a static FBML page should work!

This creates lots of possibilities….. here’s a few ideas….

Other things to think about…….SEO

Well you’re never going to get away from it are you? Of course your Facebook page is visible to search engines so bare in mind that what your ‘non-fans’ see is what the search engines see.

Page Titles – just like your website or blog these are important so it;s not going to hurt to have something a little more descriptive than just your company name.

Description – Goes without saying that this needs to be optimised.

Image descriptions and comments – it’s all visible so make ‘em good.

Content - Have loads of it and keep it regular (and no just RSS feeds either)!
