Integrating MailChimp with WordPress (part 2)
Using S2Member list services
Today we have a very simple tutorial which shows you how to integrate a MailChimp list with the WordPress plugin S2Member. Once you have set everything up (firstly you’ll need a MailChimp account) then people wishing to register for your site have the option of being included in your mailing list.
S2Member
s2Member is an extremely powerful ( and free ) membership management system for WordPress®. The s2Member plugin ( free ) integrates seamlessly with PayPal® ( very easy ), and fully supports recurring billing, with the ability to track affiliate commissions on a recurring basis. s2Member supports custom Pages for registration ( including Custom Registration Fields ), account access, and a whole lot more.
Generally this is far more effective at adding people to your MailChimp list than the MailChimp module for a couple of reasons:
- For whatever reason (free downloads etc) they want to register for your site and therefore might not be too bothered about receiving the odd email.
- Although it’s an opt in system people generally don’t like un-ticking boxes on online forms.
- They might actually want updates but didn’t realize you offered that service.
Setting it up
Before you start you’ll need two things
- A MailChimp account (login to this first)
- S2Member plugin installed – serach for s2member in the Plugins Directory or go to www.s2member.com
Step 1
Go to the s2Member API/List Services
Open (click) on the MailChimp List Server Integration
To get your MailChimp API Key then simply click on add an API Key (you’ll need to be logging in to MailChimp for this).
Alternatively your API code can be found once you are logged into MailChimp by going to the Account Menu and selecting the drop down API Keys and Info.
Simply copy and paste this code
Step 4
To get the list ID you must first create on in MailChimp.
Go to View List > Settings and your unique ID for that particular list will appear at the bottom of the page
Save the changes in S2Member and you should be all set to go!
