Kevin Mullins SWPP Licentiateship panel

Today’s Sunday Showcase comes from Kevin Mullins who was recently awarded his Licentiateship at this years SWPP convention. Kevin’s wedding photography (in my mind anyway) is a perfect example of how documentary wedding photography SHOULD be done….. oh and he knows a thing or two about SEO so make sure you follow the links at the bottom of the page!

I was a little hesitant to put my Licentiate panel together as the information I had received was that a purely documentary panel would not be seen favourably by the judges.  However, I decided to put the panel together and enter the Big ‘L’ Challenge at the 2011 SWPP Convention.  This means the images are judged live and the decision is announced at the convention.

I was delighted to find out the panel was successful, especially as the purely documentary nature of the shots.  Not one image was staged or directed, and they are all using available light only – no flash present.

It’s given me confidence to move forward with my panels and I’ll be looking to move up again, perhaps at the 2012 convention.

Whilst the panel is purely monochromatic, that is not a complete representation of my work.  In fact, some of these images had started life as colour and I converted them for the panel to offer consistency and uniformity across the body of work.
