Newborn Photographers

Submitted by on April 22, 2011 – 10:00 am3 Comments

Maybe I’m getting soft in my old age or maybe it’s all the babies I’ve been shooting recently but newborn photography is something that really fascinates me.

It’s been 15 years since Anne Geddes published Down in the Garden and changed the way babies were to be photographed forever. These days the Geddes inspired style of newborn and baby photography is certainly more widespread and there are some fantastic photographers producing wonderful work.

These are just a few of my favourites…. click on the names or images to head over to their respective sites….. in no particular order……enjoy….

Memories by Marie

I love my job. I mainly photograph children, families, maternity and little wee newborns. I do enjoy photographing a good wedding now and then.

that’s my style.  I love everything fresh and simple, pure like soft baby skin.

Tracy Willis

I am a 41 year old mother to three boys, and I’m based in Bournemouth, Dorset. Since a very young age I have had a passion for anything art! It all started many many years ago when I used to draw pastel portraits for people. My passion for photography has come about later in life, and given hindsight I really should have started much earlier, maybe then I would have followed a career I loved from leaving school! My aims with my work are to produce the best possible memories that you can treasure forever. During sessions I aim to make little ones (and mums) as relaxed as possible, and with newborn sessions I am even happy to bottle feed or change baby’s nappies! I like sessions to be as relaxed as possible.

Voted Western Washington’s #1 Portrait Photographerin King 5′s Best of Western Washington Contest 2010

I live in Duvall, Washington with my wonderful husband and two beautiful young boys – a two and three year old. I LOVE being a mom and I love children. We have a wonderful little studio on our property right next to our home, perfect for those rainy Seattle days.

Lyanne Wylde Photography

I picked up a ‘proper’ camera again just after my daughter was born. I needed to capture those precious moments, the milk blister, first smile (most likely wind), the face covered in food, that first tooth (little did we realise the pain we’d endure with their teething!), the first steps, that fake camera smile etc.  We forget what they looked like last week – yet a photo jogs our memory, like a Rolodex our brains connect images with memories and memories with emotions.  An image really does speak a thousand words.

These are the simple reasons that I love photography. To capture not just the image but also the memory and emotion.

Envida Studio Kids

En Vida is Spanish for in life. I chose this name, because it really describes how I feel about photography. We all take on so many roles throughout our lifetime, child, teen, bride, husband, mother, father and I feel very blessed in that I am able to share these moments with you. My aspiration is to help you save and remember those intimate moments and unforgettable times in life.

Julie Campbell Photography

I’m a former Kindergarten teacher who loves hanging out with my family, reading, being lazy, and going to the beach. Photography is my passion, and something I can’t get enough of.  I absolutely LOVE being a photographer.

Kerry Sundahl Photography Utah newborn photographer

I am passionate about newborn photography. I love capturing those tiny details that are gone in the blink of an eye. I love spending a few hours with new families. I can just feel the wonderful love that parents have for their new little bundles of joy. l get so excited as I look over my images later to see what I have captured. But the most rewarding part is seeing the look on my clients faces when they love the images I have created for them.

Tea and Brie

I love the outdoors and being able to take a nice deep breath of fresh air.  I love the changing seasons, when blackbirds sit in a row on a power line, and how the sun sets over the corn fields down the road from my house.  I love my husband, my children, and I put great value on the time we spend together as a family.
I love finding beauty in the details.
I love photography, and I love being able to share my passion with you.

I specialize in newborn, baby & children’s contemporary photography & I love what I do! My style as been described as part contemporary, part classic and part lifestyle. What could be better than capturing a moment and creating art that will be cherished for years to come?

Alisa Groves Photography

I am an on-location, natural light photographer specializing in newborn, children, maternity and family photography. I offer modern, custom photography to families in the St. Albert and Edmonton area.

Jess Morgan Photography

Hi, I’m Jess. I’m a local mum and photographer specialising in natural-light baby and child photography in the Richmond upon Thames area. I’m also a big chocoholic, shopaholic and snapaholic; I’ve always got my camera with me – just in case!

Gretchen Davis Photography

I am a girl who daydreams. I am a woman who loves deeply. I am a mama who delights in my children.

What about the boys?

After finishing this article I realised that it is certainly VERY female photographer biased (I was once accused of concentrating on too many male photographers so hopefully this will balance the books)! We needed to add at least one male newborn photographer in there somewhere so here’s a little something to finish off the article from Marcin and myself.

15 years ago wow! Seems like no more than a decade ago I bought the first Geddes book and thought “how can I do better than that?” I love her work, although it’s now been so copied it’s almost a cliche now. I fear some people will be dropping their client’s babies trying to keep up. Great post as always Michael and what a lovely selection of photographers you have highlighted.
