The iPhone SLR Mount….. really?!?!

Submitted by on July 14, 2011 – 10:00 am2 Comments

It seemed just last week I was listening to a podcast interview from Dave Warner at Lensflare35 with Jack Hollingsworth about the iPhone photography revolution.

Jack, whilst being enthused by iphoneography was also quick to point out that an iPhone is not going to replace a DSLR.

Someone should have mentioned this to PhotoJoJo.

I first saw the iPhone SLR Mount after receiving an email from my business partner. He doesn’t tweet but over 5000 people have shared this on Twitter already.

My first thoughts……. I had to check the calendar to see if it was April.

My second thoughts…… I thought I’d missed some new fools holiday that got introduced whilst I was too busy. Mid-Summer Madness maybe?

Third, forth, fifth, sixth and seventh thoughts……. Really? No seriously, REALLY?

Finally I thought to myself…… I kinda want one.

At $249.00 The iPhone SLR Mount is no toy.

By the looks of things it has focusing issues, you can’t change the aperture unless you have an old style lens with an aperture ring, the images results are about 2 stops darker than you’d expect and need to be fixed in post and it’s prone to getting dirt and dust marks……..Sounds like a toy camera to me!

It does come with it’s own UV filter though…..mmmmm.

Will I be reaching into my pocket to buy one of these thingamajigs?…… it’s doubtful.

Would I like to have a go at shooting a whole wedding with one?……. Does anyone need a second shooter with a difference? My fee is $295.00

Will spell the end of the DSLR….. of course not. Will it be a contributor towards the death of the cheap compact? Perhaps, it’s at the very least a step towards innovation.

Forget worrying about Uncle Bob shooting over your shoulder at weddings…… it’s Cousin Robbie peeking into your camera bag asking to borrow ‘Your Big Lens’ for his SLR mount!

…you’re there with this baby …  only 9 minutes of disassembly and you can grab that phone call.
