I know I will never forget this wedding for many reasons, it was a personal journey, one that would be one of the highlights of my career and something I was to be very proud of.  It was the amazing wedding of Rebekah and Richard Parkin, in the breathtakingly stunning Tuscany.

After a great flight to Perugia my arrival in Tuscany was no disappointment, it has always been number one on the places for me to visit and it was all I had imagined and then lots more.  The lushness of the land, the beautiful homes and towns and no sign of a Tesco or Ikea superstore popping through the vast hills. Turning up the drive to the villa – Terre Di Nano, lined with amazing trees took me back to the Gladiator film and then I was totally overwhelmed when I saw just how much Italian beauty my home for the next couple of days had and what out of this world views it had in every direction.

Bek and Richard had chosen to marry with a more Italian traditional style, I LOVED THAT!! How fabulous, so the really cute bit is where the Groom has the bride’s bouquet and takes it to the bride’s house/room, knocks and then gives the bride the bouquet. So on their wedding day Rich carried Beks bouquet of beautiful sunflowers, came up to her room, knocked and then beamed with happiness as he saw Beks looking all amazing.

The ceremony was conducted in Italian by the registrar, how fabulously romantic it sounded, the narrative in their civil ceremonies is very formal, not at all apparent in the lovely voice of a male Italian, when translated to English by the interpreter, I think we all found ourselves thinking ‘really, is that what he just said?’.

After the ceremony we went to the local ice cream parlour who’d been expecting us for a pot of the scrummiest Italian ice-cream.  Then with just a short amount of time left in the town before we were due back to the villa for the wedding breakfast.

We returned back to the Villa where dinner was ready for us, with beautiful food and wine grown from the grape on the land.  Beks and Rich had planned to have no formal speeches, they had asked people to stand and say a word if they felt they wanted to … or even could do!  Andrew, Beks dad stood up first and with him had some paper which on it had the words of a speech that he’d proudly considered and written in preparation for his girl’s big day.   I think Beks was glad he had prepared that speech as it really touched us all.

Then it was Rich’s turn, with no formal notes to refer to he spoke straight from the heart, which in turn lead almost everyone to reaching for their napkins!!!

Mr & Mrs Parkin, I thank you deeply for choosing me as your wedding photographer, we started the adventure as strangers and I now consider you great friends.  I wish you both all the happiness in your lives together, enjoy the journey!!! xxx
